We understand that many of you are diligently doing your homework, so to speak, here upon planet earth, digging out all within you that prevents you from feeling the true joy and abundance of life on this planet. Many of you are examining the relationship you have with yourself, for it is this relationship that is mirrored and discovered in the relationships with all others.
As you look at yourself in the mirror, ask yourself, “Can I see the Divine being I truly am? Can I see God’s light in my own eyes? Can I forgive myself for perceived mistakes in my past? Can I give myself as much compassion as I give a friend?” Dear ones you are all working upon new levels of self-love. Far from being selfish, true love of self is an acknowledgment of God’s love as it shines through you. True self love is a realization that you are part of something so much more – namely God’s light and that you Love God and therefore must love yourself. If you say you love the body, dear ones, you must also love every cell within it. If you say you love God, you must truly embrace yourselves as part of that light as well.
How to love yourself if you do not feel this in your own heart? First and foremost dear friends, pray. Ask God to help you feel and experience the true beauty and light of your soul. Ask God to help you have compassion for yourself. And then do your part by pushing away thoughts of self-judgment or self-reproach. Catch yourselves in the act of criticizing, putting yourself down, or being hard upon yourselves. And then apologize to yourself, the divine being and turn around and say something positive. You can change these learned behaviors into new behaviors that are kind, peaceful, loving, and affirming. Doing so dear ones will change the course of your lives. You will become kinder to self, and therefore take actions that are more representative of your truth. You will help others grow by standing in your truth and sometimes by catalyzing them to find their own. You will play the martyr less and be the inspiration more. You will be more honest and less resentful. Far from being selfish, self-love is the key to acknowledging God within your hearts, and in that space, dear ones, there is only Love for self, love for others, and indeed love for all of creation. Practice makes perfect. Choose this week to be the one you start to treat yourself as you would a lover.
