I fell away from the sit, breathe, and receive routine for a while. I got on a passionate roll with my creative pursuits and was so happy I felt love nearly all the time. It was as if every moment was one of reception. When I channeled last week’s newsletter on worry, I couldn’t image what I’d be worried about since the angels include me in the “audience” with each message.

Mid-Saturday last week, it became apparent that I needed to sit, breathe, and receive! As part of selling t-shirts with sayings, it is necessary to learn copyright and trademark law and how to check your designs so—to the best of your ability—you avoid infringing on others’ marks. You can’t just include a good saying and hope it is OK. And while there are obvious no-nos (like selling Disney designs without a license!), there are many far more subtle ones. I had searched for trademarks on each phrase used; then I learned you had to search on each word and combination of words as well.

I soon discovered the word “in” had been trademarked as a t-shirt brand. And the word “angels.” And “heavenly.” On it went. While you can use trademarked words as long as you don’t cause customer confusion with a registered brand, that is a very gray area of the law that is determined only case by case. What may seem like common sense to one can be interpreted differently by another.

It was late when I came to this understanding. My head was swimming with legal jargon and case studies. I felt thoroughly overwhelmed. It seemed that a large percentage of the words I “love” (also trademarked as a shirt brand) were unavailable for use in positive messages on my designs, or at least not one hundred percent guaranteed to be OK.

I had a meltdown. I was no longer having fun. I contemplated quitting. My bad feelings told me quite clearly that it was time to sit, breathe, and receive, and get a tune up so I could see through the eyes of my soul once again.

I dropped everything, shut my eyes, and began to breathe. Slowly in. Slower out. In. Out. In. Out. Immediately, I began to relax and feel my heart again. I didn’t want to quit. I am passionately in love with the creative process. I want to put more positive messages out into the world. I want to be legal, respectful of other brands, and in harmony with all. I started to feel better as my thoughts lined up with my soul, and my angels’ love poured into my field.

As I focused on what I did want (vs. what I didn’t!), my body involuntarily inhaled and relaxed. I sat breathing deeply for another five minutes. Suddenly, everything seemed doable. Positive thoughts flowed in. “Thousands of people are doing this safely. Thousands have gone through painful learning curves and figured it out. Thousands, like me, have felt profoundly ignorant until they learned from experience and research.” I inhaled even more deeply, and one of my favorite phrases emerged. “I can do this. I can do this, I can do this.” A few simple minutes of breathing and receiving love recalibrated me completely. I went back to my research with renewed vigor.

I pulled every design from my shop to evaluate it more deeply. Whether I liked it or not, I tweaked them to remove any gray areas. The shirts should be back up by the time you read this. I like them. I can do this.

I have found no greater love than what flows from the Divine and the angels. There is no greater support, no greater healer, soother, counselor, or advisor. Whether your need is due to frustration with the world, politics, concerns for your children, health issues, or, like me, a feeling of being totally (temporarily!) ignorant and incompetent at something you want to do, turn inward, receive.

This practice has helped resolve my challenges when I feel hopelessly out of my league. It has healed me physically numerous times. The time with God gives me energy when tired, insight when confused, and incredible, delicious feelings of connection—five minutes or less. We don’t do it because it seems too simple. It is simple. It does work.

God is my go-to. God and the angels can attune us to the energy that solves all our problems. Heaven doesn’t play favorites. The sun doesn’t pick who it shines upon. We are all loved equally. We are all given equal grace.

Here are a few pointers to help you tap into this simple yet powerful practice.

1.  Sit (or lie down)

If you want to receive heaven’s love consciously, make the time to sit or lie down for a few minutes each day. Two to five will do it.

It is mind-blowing how most of us, me included, can pretend we don’t have this time. We can doomscroll through social media, numb our minds in various ways, and obsess about problems. We can also find two to five minutes to receive the love we stress about not having. 🙂 If you want the help, it’s there for the taking.

2. Breathe

Breath is a key to so many positive experiences in life. I like to research what the angels tell me to better understand from the scientific point of view when possible. Apparently, you trigger the vagus nerve when you breathe in slowly and even more slowly out (as if deflating yourself like a balloon). The vagus nerve stops the body’s stress response and puts you into rest/digest mode. It helps make your heart more coherent and, as well, your brainwaves. Some day, science will understand that these more coherent brainwaves allow us to receive the very orderly and coherent waves of vibration from spirit!

Breath is also the way spirit can get into our bodies. Spiritual frequencies somehow “ride” in on the breath. I don’t know how exactly, but I do know that the angels often tell me to breathe into an area of stuck energy, or breathe into my spine, or as if I’m pulling the energy from my head to the floor. No matter how I breathe, it is intentionally allowing higher frequencies into body and mind.

Lastly, breathing calms the thoughts. If you’re in a mind-spin over something painful or troublesome, making yourself breathe slowly in and slower out for just a few minutes, if you really do it—slow in / slower out / repeat / repeat / repeat — will calm the mind. Calm minds can think better thoughts, which then attract better things.

3. Receive

In concept, receiving is a no-brainer. In practice, mind-boggling. How do I receive? What do I do? By its very nature, receiving is “not doing.” It is sitting with hands open and allowing someone else to put the present in them. It is saying “OK” when someone wants to give. It is just “being” willing to take in what is given freely.

To receive from the angels, breathe, and focus on feeling good. They will do the rest. The simple act of sitting and breathing indicates your willingness to receive.

And that’s it. You must only be willing to receive—not worthy, ready, or determined. Just willing.

If you sit in the sun, you receive its shine by the very act of being willing. You don’t have to be worthy, ready, or determined. The sun shines. When you’re in it, you receive. The angels send love on a frequency of love. When you surrender to it through simply breathing, you receive.

The angels talk about this practice often. When I drop away from it, and I’m not maintaining my vibe on my own, life is more challenging. It is hard to believe something so simple works. It does.

Give it a try for a few minutes every day this week if you like. See how it helps to shift your feelings first, then your thoughts, and eventually your life.
