The angels have been challenging me this week to look at areas where I’ve been settling for feelings that are less than wonderful. That surprised me. I do a pretty good job of keeping my thoughts and vibration well-maintained. However, I’ve got strong intent to grow and expand through joyrather than waiting for pain to motivate me, and this was their way of supporting that intent.

So I took inventory. Was my body perfectly where I want it to be? I had to admit that I’ve been accepting and adapting to some old misalignments from past injuries. I was settling. I started to go inward each day and imagine feeling as free and vigorous in my body when I was young. I focused on those feelings of strength, flexibility, freedom, and bliss in nature. My posture has started to re-adust on its own. Old tensions are starting to release. I’ve been resting more and pushing myself less, very naturally. I’m feeling incredible improvement.

My own story reminds me of a much more amazing one by Evelyn Monahan in her book, “The Miracle of Metaphysical Healing,” which you can find used or in a free downloadable pdf if you google it. Evelyn was in an accident in which she lost her vision and developed epilepsy. She lived like this and coped with it for nearly a decade until it dawned on her that she knew how to fix it! She started to take fifteen minutes, three times a day, to imagine the healed conditions. She could see within less than two weeks and never had a seizure again! She proceeded to teach thousands of people how to heal themselves using only their minds.

It is incredible how we can adapt to things far less than desirable, perhaps because we don’t know how to fix them, we don’t think we can, we get attached to feeling victimized, or in my case, sheer mental laziness! I know what to do.

I looked at other areas in my life to see where I was settling. I realized I’d been living with workarounds due to leaks in my old irrigation system. That was an easy fix that didn’t require a vibrational adjustment except to anticipate a working system and schedule the repairs. My garden is now very happy!

Area by area, I looked through my life to see where I needed to recalibrate thoughts or actions so I could be satisfied instead of settling.

When I got in the car to get groceries and discovered a low tire, I started settling for a disrupted schedule until I remembered to create. I imagined it quickly and safely fixed, got the urge to get on the computer, and discovered that the only appointment remaining at the tire shop the next day was precisely when I could go. Had I moaned and groaned and felt sorry for myself, I would have missed the guidance and probably the opening!

I think I’ll just keep an eye out for “settling” as a regular practice. It sure makes life more fun!

Challenges still happen. Life is still life. The economy and the world are still doing what they will do. Nonetheless, the more honest I get about what works and what could be improved, the more I can tweak my vibration, and the more satisfying and easier life becomes.

Next weekend I’m teaching “Living in the flow of Grace.” I always challenge myself to take my own classes before I teach them, and I’m feeling pretty happy in the flow these days! If you feel it, join me up in Sedona!

Here are a few more tips to help you avoid settling…

1. Take Inventory

Every now and then, perhaps once a week, or once a month, or even once a year, stop and really get in touch with your feelings in the major areas of your life – body, home, spiritual connections, relationships, and see where you are “settling” – wanting more but accepting less and doing nothing about it.

Pick one area to start with. What do you really want? If you know what to do about it, start taking steps to accomplish it.

If you don’t, spend a little time each day imagining what it would feel like – how absolutely wonderful it would feel – to have what you really want. No need to envision details. Focus on the feeling. Wait for inspiration. See how things start to shift. When you create one improved situation, move to the next.

2. Focus on Progress not Perfection

As you improve your vibration, the indicator that you’re creating better is that you feel better when you think about the topic. I was thinking about my body and how to cope with some misalignments all the time. When I was honest, that was a chore and not much fun. When I started thinking about feeling wonderful and free in the body, I felt excited, passionate, and alive. That was my first indicator that my thoughts and, therefore my vibration was going to produce solutions. Hang onto the better feelings, knowing that they are, inevitably, a sign that the fix is in progress.

3. Celebrate your wins

As you start to create better situations – be it improved health, a new relationship, or even a clean and organized junk drawer, celebrate your wins. The more you can celebrate good feelings, the quicker the situations change. The more you can celebrate your manifestations and own them, the more you can manifest. The more confident you get in your own abilities to let the universe work through you, the easier it gets to release worry and anxiety and replace them with genuine anticipation. Celebrate your wins, even if only by congratulating yourself and basking in your own goodness!

We’ve been pretty trained to settle, some more so than others, and often in some areas of life more than others, but the bottom line is that we are creators, and if we can tap into a feeling more often than not, we can have what that feeling represents. From the most seemingly impossible or insurmountable situation to the tiniest annoyance, we can improve our lives – one better thought and one improved feeling at a time. You deserve that!
