In high school, I was a religious snob. I was born, raised, brewed, and steeped in my Catholic upbringing and while 90% of it was beautiful and inspired greater connection to God, the judgment was still there. I went on moralisitc marches at the Capitol while I was in high school. I waxed philosophical on morality. I was a “goody-two-shoes” and judged those who weren’t.

After college I became an intellectual snob too. I had a prestigious job in engineering. I was “smart,” and I put that word in quotes because if I were truly smart I’d have been more loving! However, that was what I knew back then.

I used to make fun of psychics. And then… I was guided to quit engineering and talk to angels. It became very apparent to me at the time that I better make a list of everyone or everything I’d ever judged or else I would probably have to become it!

I wrote pages in my journal. The angels asked me to imagine myself in the conditions I’d judged earlier in life and see if, in my mind, I would be able to love myself anyway. The tears flowed. I realized I was a hypocrite because I judged hypocrites! I was a bigot because I judged bigots. I was prejudiced against the prejudicial. It wasn’t the prettiest or easiest phase of my person growth, but it was freeing!

If we do not learn to love our shadow we cannot fully shine our light.

The angels have worked with me for decades to accept every little last thought, feeling, quirk, and issues within myself, and to embrace myself with love, compassion, dignity, and an understanding that I am simply an embodiment of love, as we all are, striving to come to that awareness.

When I’m upset, I hug and comfort myself. When I’m sad I ask the angels for a hug. When I’m rebellious, I laugh at myself. If I mess up with someone else I make it right. I give myself the compassion I’d share with another and have learned not to take my own humanity so seriously!

We’re all works in progress as we strive to understand our soul’s perfection.

This is why I can love those who hate, put me down to build themselves up, judge, or take out their pain on me. I see my light even in my darkness and so I can see theirs too. I have found compassion for myself, and so I can have compassion for others. I focus on my evolving light even in my darkness, and that gives me the ability to see that very same light within others.

Of course I don’t want to dance with the hateful, prejudiced, and unkind.Discernment is a fine art. But I can love them. I can focus on the light inside of them that is striving, albeit awkwardly, to surface. By doing so I assist them. By bearing silent, inner witness to the light within even the darkest souls, we draw it forth.

By focusing on the light within ourselves – no matter what – we draw that forth too and allow ourselves to be emissaries of peace and love on a planet in need.

I love all of you on this list. You inspire me. I see your hearts in my inner world, not individually but collectively. I know your desire to see love, be love, and know love more intimately with the Divine. It is a joy to be on this path with you.

Don’t judge yourselves, I pray. Be kind to yourself. Know you are nothing less than the love that sources universes having an experience and trying to remember. As more of us commit to this unconditional level of self-acceptance, we improve more rapidly. We shine more brightly. And then we take that light into the world, witnessing it in others, and coaxing it forth.

Here are some pointers to embrace love without judgment.

1. Next time you judge something, do the angel exercise from this week:

  1. First state your complaint with the other. I can’t stand it when they …
  2. Next say to yourself “If I am … I am not worthy of love.” This is not true, but this is what you are telling yourself
  3. Now try a kinder, more deeply truthful statement: “When they… they are disconnected from an experience of love. If I … I would be disconnected from the experience of love.”

Jesus said once, “Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, you do unto me.” The angels say, “Whatsoever you judge in the least of your brothers or sisters, you judge in yourself.”

Better to discern who and what resonates and belongs in your life and make peace with that.

Judgment automatically drops away when you truly love yourself and own your choices.

2. Try to Accept and love yourself… always

We are all human. We all have moments of glory and moments of sadness, anger, frustration, etc. We all have habits we love and those we’d rather change.  We all have circumstances and physical features we love and those we’d rather change.

Next time you find yourself judging or criticizing yourself, stop. Hug yourself. Talk to yourself like a little child who needs love

For example. “I shouldn’t be upset! I should be more loving!”  Hug yourself. Say to that little child within, “You’re upset and I love you. I’ll help you be more loving but for now, let me just listen to you.”

Journal. Talk to your angels. Get your negativity out in a healthy way and love yourself through the process. Sometimes counselors, reprogramming technologies, etc. are required. Love yourself through your own darkness.

Or perhaps you judge something material. Here’s one I hear often.  “By this age I should have a house and a better life!”  Again, love yourself like you’d love a child or a friend. Tell yourself, “Wow, look how far I’ve grown.” Tell yourself, “It’s not about the material stuff and we can manifest that anytime. You’re eternal. You have time to create everything you want.”

In your darkness and shadow moments, give yourself extra love. Some little one inside of you is in need of it.

3. Bear Witness to the Light in Others

If you see someone doing something you can’t stand, being someone you can’t stand, or in circumstances you can’t stand, love yourself first.

Tell yourself, “It is OK for me to be me.” We don’t have to make others conform to validate our own choices.

Instead, imagine the light within that soul. See it burning bright, no matter how deeply buried you feel it might be.

Make the courageous choice to live and let live. As you focus more and more on their light, pray for them, and send them love, you’ll find that you are more easily able to feel your own… and who knows they might even feel your love and shift too!

While it isn’t easy to move past our pre-programmed human judgments, doing so equals freedom. Your happiness is no longer tied to the outside world, but rather tied only to whether or not you are in alignment with your truth.

As the angels like to say frequently, love really does feel better!
