Sedona, Arizona Swimming Holes - Slide Rock State Park
Slide Rock is a Sedona landmark where the creek flows through a long slippery set of rocks! Hop in and let the current carry you! Make sure you wear sturdy shorts over your swimsuit or you may just end up with "rock burn" on your legs.
Although the park is often jam-packed with people you can easily hike and rock hop upstream to find peace and seclusion. There are many spots where you can sit in the water and let it flow around you, or find a rock near one of the natural whirlpool areas and let the water pull all the tension out of your feet. This is great fun for all ages. I highly recommend a stop here if you're visiting!
| Directions: |
From Phoenix, take I-17 north to Hwy 179 (exit 298). Turn left onto 179 and follow it past the Village of Oak Creek to the Sedona (Burger King) "Y". Turn right at the "Y" onto North 89A.
Drive 6.9 miles up the road (through uptown, past all the tourist shops, and then several miles up the creek) until you see the large parking area and parks & rec. hut to the left. Pull off here and park the follow the signs down to the creek. |
Difficulty: |
Moderate. |
Supplies: |
Wear your swimsuit and some sturdy shorts over it if you plan to slide. If you have water shoes or old sneakers to wear in the creek, these are helpful as well. Bring a towel, sunscreen, lunch, water, a good book, and a camera. Enjoy!
