Although you're likely to play while the sun is shining and the tropical breezes are blowing, you can count on occasional rainfall in the islands. Take advantage of the clouds by shopping in one of Kauai's fine galleries or markets.
There are so many places to explore! Here are a few of my favorites...

ChingYoung Village In Hanalei
A casual shopping center with many small treasures
You can't miss Ching Young Shopping Village in Hanalei. Stop by for lunch and then browse through the eclectic stores for items ranging from T-shirts to upscale metaphysical gifts. Walk across the street to the ABC store for local Island delicacies (macadamia nuts, coconut syrup) and meander along the street to find many other fine apparel & jewelry stores.
When you get tired of snorkeling, this is a great way to spend a lazy afternoon on the north shore.

Kapaa Shopping
Wander the streets, they can't be beat!
As you drive through the town of Kapaa you can't miss the many shops along either side of the main highway. Stop and park anywhere. Enjoy "Two Frogs Kissing", "Trash to Treasures", and many others.
Drive south a little to the Kapaa Village for more local treats in the ABC store or Long's drugstore, and while you're here check out the Wyland Gallery.
A little further to the south you'll find the Waipouli shopping plaza where you can buy beautiful seashells and local treasures. If you wan't something Hawaiian you're bound to find it nearby!

Poipu Shopping Village
South Shore Shopping
The Village sponsors a free hula show several times a week and several fine art and jewerly galleries along with the local ABC store where you can buy everything from fruit to macademia nuts, to beach sarongs, and carved coconuts. Wander through for a lazy afternoon.
Take Hwy. 56 south past Lihue until it turns left into Hwy. 50. Take 50 until you reach the left hand turn off to 520. This is the famous "tree tunnel". Follow 520 south through the town of Koloa until you reach Poipu Road. Turn left, and you will see the Village shortly to your left.

Spouting Horn Vendors
A personal favorite
I've always enjoyed a good bargain! You can buy wonderful treasures from these local vendors located under the tents near the parking lot at Spouting Horn. Jewelry prices are unbelievably reasonable and you can also find items such as carvings, keychains, wind chimes and various other island specialties. I have purchased many wonderful gifts at this unbeatable market! Open daily.
