Kauai Hiking - Pihea Trail |

 OK, I confess, I have not hiked this trail more than a mile, but oh what a glorious mile it was! You start at a beautiful overlook high up on the ridges of the Na Pali coastline where the mountain peaks border the Waimea Canyon area.
You will walk on hard-packed red dirt that is bordered by lush ferns and flowers, overlooking the ocean and cliffs down below. Why hike too far when you can stop and watch the mists roll over the mountain tops? Better yet, stop in the town of Waimea before you come up here and grab a quick deli sandwich to eat on this scenic peak! This place seems like a little slice of heaven.

Take Hwy. 56 south till it merges into Hwy 50. Drive all the way south and west past the town of Waimea until you see Waimea Canyon Drive (Hwy. 550) to the right. It is a rather unassuming road and you have to watch for it. Go right and up and up onto Waimea Canyon Drive until you enter Kokee park and go past the park headquarters. The trailhead is just past pole #152 at the top of the hill to your left.

Wear comfy hiking or walking shoes and bring water, a lunch, and your camera plus extra film.
