Kauai - Ke'e Beach

Ke'e BeachKe'e is a crescent beach at the very north end of the island where you can swim and snorkel in the protected lagoon during the calm summer months. The reef is often exposed at low tide so you can actually stand with your face in the water and watch the fish. The lagoon is so calm in the mornings that you'll swear you are in a salt water swimming pool. By late afternoon a strong current often develops and although you can still snorkel, you have to work your feet or fins a lot harder to stay in one place!

If you do decide to stick your face in the water, you'll see big silver fish, colorful parrot fish, minnows, tangs, and a whole host of other colorful sea creatures. And if you're a strong swimmer, venture out by the reef where you may even see an eel or a sea turtle.

Ke'e Beach If you'd rather stay on dry land you can walk along the beach for gorgeous views of the Na Pali coast in the distance to the north. Then, when you're done you can bake in the sun or rest in the shade of the wide-leafed trees that border the beach. In any case, you're sure to have a great day at Ke'e.

There are restroom facilities and outdoor showers here, but for a real treat when you're done playing in the ocean, take a dip in Limahouli stream or in the Waikapalae wet cave just down the road.

Directions:    Take Hwy. 56 all the way north until the road dead ends at the parking lot at Ke'e beach.
