Kauai - Adventures |

Kauai Adventures. .
If you love adventure, you'll find plenty to do on the Garden Isle of Kauai. Take a helicopter ride over unspoiled cliffs above the ocean. Kayak up a peaceful river. Or, try horseback riding, bicycling or hiking deep into the lush tropical jungles. Here are a few tantalizing glimpses of the most exciting ways to enjoy paradise. . .

Helicopter Rides
|
A helicopter ride over Kauai is unforgettable. You'll soar effortlessly over the breathtaking Na Pali cliffside and rise up above the peaks to view the incredible Alakai swamp. And what a view awaits you as you enter the Waimea Canyon by air. Red and green mountains rise above the silvery river that carved them.
Next you'll fly inland for a trip over secluded waterfalls and then you enter the hauntingly beautiful crater of Mt. Wai'ale'ale, the wettest spot on earth. Take plenty of film. You won't be disappointed!
Some of my favorite companies are O'Hana Helicopters and InterIsland Air Helicopter Tours and Heli USA. Each departs from different locations depending on where you stay.

Kayaking
|
If you want a little workout and a peaceful morning, I've heard that kayaking up the Wailua river is a beautiful experience. Most companies will rent you a kayak and give you directions on how to reach the fern grotto, then where to park the kayak while you hike to a secluded waterfall.
For the more adventurous, you can sign up for a kayak tour around the Na Pali cliffside where you'll follow the current around 6 miles of stunning coastline. This is offered only in the summer months when the sea is calm.

Horseback Riding

On Maui the bicycle tours down Mt. Haleakala have been a favorite adventure for years. Now you can take a similar ride in Kauai. Allow a trained guide to lead you down the scenic winding roads in Kokee state park. If you enjoy speed and you must be outdoors, this would be a wonderful trip.

Cycling Adventures

Although I've not tried a horseback ride on Kauai, the brochures make this look extremely inviting. Most tours leave from the northeastern side of the island and include a ride to an out-of-the-way waterfall where you'll enjoy a picnic lunch. Enjoy!

Hiking

If you're at all inclined to hike, I urge you to take the first two miles of the Kalalau trail and then the next two back to Hanakapia falls. For other hikes, check out the Hiking Section which contains my personal favorites!
