Color Symbolism

Is the "red" I see, the same as the "red" you see? Maybe we'll never know because each one of us interprets the frequencies of the color spectrum in our own way. Nonetheless, each frequency, or color, affects us differently. Many studies have been done to determine how colors affect our moods, what the colors in our auras mean, and how colors can be used in healing. Here you'll find some color ideas to experiment with in your own life.

Color and Your Emotions

Colors are frequencies that have been scientifically demonstrated to affect your mood and your emotions. Some colors inspire passion and energy, while others soothe us. Use this chart to determine which colors you need for greater balance.

Red Red is the color that advertisers will tell you commands the greatest attention. To some it signifies empowerment, passion, and vitality, to others danger. No matter which emotion is evoked, red has been shown to activate an adrenaline response which causes us to pay attention and take notice.

If you like red, it will charge you up and make you feel powerful. You are probably a person with a real zest and passion for life.

If you don't like red, it will feel intimidating to be around. You may be seeking more peace in your life and less drama. Red is definitely a color that moves you into action!

Orange Orange is a color between red and yellow that stimulates energy, creativity and activity. Orange is an appetite stimulate and definitely a color for those who like to experiment a little. Orange speaks of friendliness and fun.

If you don't like orange you may reject the flamboyant and prefer to have a few close friends rather than socialize with the many.

Yellow Yellow is a cheerful sunny color that almost always evokes a positive response in the viewer. Cheerful and easygoing, yellow gets you motivated. Yellow helps alleviate depression and stimulates creative energy. If you like yellow, y ou're likely to be warm, optimistic and creative.

If you dislike it, maybe you are more comfortable on the practical side of life.

Green Green is said to be a color of balance and harmony that induces relaxation. It helps to energize the heart, makes one feel connected with nature, and somewhat social as well. Green is the color of the energy of the heart and is a healing color as well.

If you're not too fond of green you may not like the social scene, and you may tend to want to be more withdrawn.
Pink Pink is often associated with the feminine energy, with love, nurturing and the heart. It can be sensual, but in an innocent way, unlike its hotter cousin, "red." People who like pink are often nurturing and emotional, peope who don't would rather have red's passion and intensity, and may be uncomfortable with the softer side of feeling.

Blue Blue is a peaceful color symbolizing the heavely skies, and the bottomless depths of the ocean. Blue is calming and uplifting and speaks of truth. It has been shown to help one lower blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate. Blue is believed in many cultures to ward off evil spirits, and was considered the color of the gods in others. It is calming, balancing, and comforting.

If you don't like blue you may find it a bit too severe, or you may want more change in your life.

Purple Purple signifies deep passion, royalty, spirit, and perhaps because it has the highest frequency in the visible spectrum, purple is the color of the mystic. People who like purple are often individuals who are creative and generous.

If purple is too frivolous for you, you may tend toward the more practial side of life.
Brown Brown is the color of the earth -- stable and well-rooted. Brown makes one feel strong, firm, and secure. People who like browns tend to want security rather than change, or perhaps prefer to go with the flow a bit, rather thank seeking change out in an assertive manner.

If you don't like brown, you probably crave more excitement and glamour in your life.
Black Black has been given many negative connotations but it is actually the color of death, mystery, and the womb. It signifies the great unknown, and therefore can be appealing or very frightening to some. If you like black, you may want an air of mystery around you, while if you don't, you would probably prefer to know what is coming up on the road ahead.
White White has been used to symbolize purity and the divine. It is clean, crisp and inviting to some, too cold for others. When many shades of white are mixed, you have an inviting and cozy atmosphere. When there is only one shade, the room may feel too stark. If you like white, you may pay attention to cleanliness and detail and prefer simplicity.

If you don't , you may want a little more chaos and friendly clutter in your life. You're a little more easygoing; perhaps a little more colorful yourself.
